Scherf Farms Chicken

We only sell chicken raised on our farm in Michigan City, Indiana. This
guarantees the source of your chicken and the quality of life of the animal.
Our chickens are raised in limited numbers on pasture to give the chickens
plenty of grasses and bugs to forage. We do not feed sub-therapeutic
antibiotics, however, if an animal is ever sick or injured and an anti-biotic is
necessary to ensure the animals health we will use them. We would never
hold back the use of an anti-biotic if the animals quality of life would be
adversely affected. We NEVER use growth hormones, period. We do not
trim the beaks of the chickens nor do we feed arsenic to our chickens to
promote growth, these practices are typical of the large caged operations.

Whole frozen chicken is normally in stock spring thru fall. Chicken feet,
livers, hearts and gizzards are offered in limited supplies. Your chicken will
be vacuum packed to prevent freezer burn and preserve product quality.
According to the USDA meat will generally keep well in the freezer for up to
a year. The USDA also notes that meat will be safe indefinately in the
frozen state, however, quality may suffer after 1 year. All of our chicken is
inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) or the
Indiana Department of Agriculture from the time the animal is unloaded
from our trailer to the time it is placed in the freezer and ready for the
consumer.
